What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is less a currency than a computer all participants run together. Programs live there as smart contracts, and ETH pays for the compute. Since 2022 it is no longer mined but staked: put up capital and you may propose blocks. That cut power use by more than 99 percent — and it is also why there is no mining hardware to compare here.
