What is USD Coin?

Like Tether, USDC is pegged to the US dollar, but it is issued by a US company that publishes monthly attestations on the backing. That makes it easier to check, not risk-free: in 2023 the price briefly fell to 0.88 dollars when a bank holding part of the reserves failed.
